One of the things I enjoy about this plein air thing is that you never know what you’ll be painting until you get there and have a little walk-around. For the first time, we all three painted the same scene.

Even though I wore a hat, full sun just wipes me out. I ended up useless for the rest of the day, and I had to take a serious nap. For most people carrying water would be a no-brainer I guess, but I have to be convinced to carry around more stuff (I truly prefer a very light pack). The sun also dried up my paints quite noticeably this time. I was scrubbing around the palette and painting way too thin. I have sta-wet palette and have since figured out that I really should have rehydrated it. So, more water for me and the palette.

I ended up having to clean out and refill my palette from scratch. I am trying something different–I put all the warm colors on one side and all the cools on the other, to help me begin to think out the difference. I also added phthalo blue and green to the pile. Now there’s a danger my greens will get even brighter.
